City Hall Functions

Old City Hall

Troutdale City Hall, now filled to the brim with offices, once served many other purposes, according to Troutdale old-timer Walter Nasmyth.

Nasmyth, who has shared a copy of his memoirs with the Troutdale Historical Society, remembers going to City Hall during The Depression, when a local doctor gave free health checkups to children from Troutdale Grade School. In the 1930s, the Works Progress Administration sponsored ballroom dance classes for local young people in City Hall, and of course, on Saturday night the entire community came to City Hall for the big dance.

While the Saturday night dancers were waltzing or doing the fox trot, several local ladies worked in the kitchen area preparing snacks for intermission. As Walt remembers, 25 cents bought a lot of good things to eat.
