
East Metro Mediation is a free service to residents of Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village, Gresham and unincorporated East Multnomah County. The service provides an option for two or more people to work through a disagreement or conflict facilitated by a trained, impartial mediator, who provides a safe setting for both parties.
East Metro Mediation is offering two interactive training courses so participants can learn to become an impartial third party, manage conflict and empower community members to find solutions that meet everyone’s needs. Applicants will be chosen based on interest, ability and willingness to learn — no prior experience is needed.
Basic Mediation Training
Learn mediation skills to resolve conflict. This 48-hour training program includes skill development in communication, listening and conflict resolution. Experienced instructors offer theory and techniques in an interactive learning environment. Attendees will learn how to mediate a conflict between people to help them reach a resolution and gain valuable skills that can be applies in all facets of life. The program will be held on some evenings and Fridays and Saturdays in July 2020. The application deadline is June 19, 2020.
Conflict Management Training
For those who are interested in gaining the skills but can't commit to the full mediation training, this 16-hour course includes skill development in communication, listening and conflict resolution. Experienced instructors offer theory and techniques in an interactive learning environment. You will learn skills to navigate interpersonal conflict and gain valuable tools that can be applied in all facets of life — from the workplace to the home and community. This program will take place on July 8-10. Applications are due June 19 and scholarships are available. The application deadline is June 26, 2020.
