Campaign season is in full swing, with the General Election approaching on November 5. Alongside the presidential race, Troutdale voters will elect a new mayor, four City Council members, and decide on a City ballot measure. This cycle also includes other key races, including U.S. Representative, Oregon Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, State Senator, State Representative, and several statewide ballot measures.

There are some key updates to the election process this year that voters in Troutdale need to be aware of. If you are not currently registered to vote or need to update your registration, the deadline is October 15. Ballots will be mailed to in-state voters on October 16.

Once you have your ballot, it’s time to get to work. Unlike previous years, this City Council election is a single race. Voters can choose up to four candidates from the list of 11 nominees, or they can write-in their preference. The top three vote getters will win a four-year term on City Council. The person who finishes in fourth place will get the remaining two years on an open half-term.

Since both candidates for Mayor of Troutdale are current members of the City Council, there will be another vacancy when the winner assumes office. City Council will then appoint a replacement for a term that will last through December 2026.

You can learn about the candidates in the Multnomah County Voters’ Pamphlet. Information on each candidate starts on page 93. Information on our citywide ballot measure begins on page 127. Multnomah County’s Election Division also has a sample ballot for this year’s election so you can get a sneak peek.

After you fill out your ballot, be sure to seal and sign the return envelope. You can either return your ballot by mail or drop it off at an Official Ballot Drop Site. While the Troutdale Library is currently closed for renovation and IS NOT a drop off location for this election, there is an Official Ballot Drop Box on the west side of the same parking lot, close to the US Bank and NE 238th Drive. The ballot box is walk-up only. Other drop off locations include:

If you choose to mail in your ballot, be sure it is postmarked by Election Day, November 5, 2024. No postage is necessary. No matter how you return your ballot, you can track where it is in the voting process by signing up for Track Your Ballot. You can even get a virtual “I Voted” sticker!
