The air quality in Multnomah County has improved somewhat this week so the restriction on burning wood in Multnomah County was lifted at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4. However, stagnant air conditions remain and a voluntary wood burning restriction will be in effect into Friday.

Today is a YELLOW day. Stagnant air conditions continue through tonight and into tomorrow. If available, please use alternatives to burning wood to prevent any more red days this week. Learn more at https://t.co/w1DbI1X9nc pic.twitter.com/3ZOh3VjR3v

Burning wood is one of the biggest sources of harmful air pollution in Multnomah County. This includes wood stoves, fireplaces, outdoor fire pits and chimeneas. There are no restrictions on wood or charcoal used for cooking.

By not burning, we can help keep the air healthy for children and people with asthma and other serious breathing conditions.

There are exceptions for those who use wood exclusively to heat their homes, those with limited income, and during emergencies such as a power outage. Households with an exception should apply for an exemption each year.
