Census Taker

The U.S. Census Bureau is ramping up its national recruiting efforts to hire up to 500,000 temporary, part-time census takers for the 2020 Census. And it just makes sense to hire people from our community to help with the count.

Among the jobs the Census Bureau is hiring for are Census Takers, Census Field Supervisors, Recruiting Assistants, Clerk and Office Operations Supervisor. You could be considered for any or all of those roles depending on your answers to the questions on the application and what is available our area.

The Census Bureau has made changes to allow more people to participate:

  • the work is temporary, flexible, with weekly pay
  • each employee will have the choice to work and train where they live
  • money earned will not affect SNAP, TANF, HUD benefits
  • while everyone must pass a background check, a felony won’t automatically disqualify you

You can learn more about the jobs, the requirements and apply anytime at 2020census.gov. To RSVP for a guaranteed meeting with a recruiter on Sunday, January 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Gresham Senior Center, please oteroc [at] ci.fairview.or.us (email Census Coordinator Cristal Otero).
