Oregon law bans any fireworks that fly, explode, or travel more than 6 feet on the ground or 12 inches into the air. Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies will be enforcing the law and citing individuals that are in possession of illegal fireworks (up to the $2,500 maximum fine), and seizing the illegal fireworks. MCSO is also planning extra patrols during the 4th of July weekend.
- To report illegal fireworks, you can file a police report online. DO NOT call 9-1-1, as this number should be reserved for fire, life and safety emergencies.
- Use only legal fireworks: wheels, flitter sparklers, fountains, smoke devices, ground spinners and novelty devices
- Fireworks are PROHIBITED in all City parks, Oregon State Parks, and and State and Federal forest lands
- Never try to relight or handle a malfunctioning firework
- Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities – even just sparklers. They burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees - hot enough to melt some metals.
- Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
- Soak all used fireworks in a bucket of water and dispose of them in the trash (not recycling!).
- Sweep up debris to keep chemicals out of our storm drains and rivers.
