Statement from Mayor Randy Lauer:
Many cities in our area, including Portland, Gresham, Camas, Washougal, as well as Clark County, have banned the use of all fireworks, legal and illegal. Some have gone further and banned the sale of all fireworks.
Here in Troutdale, we love the Fourth of July and what it represents. This year we have experienced record hot temperatures and unusually dry weather. While we are not banning the use of fireworks in our City, we strongly encourage citizens to celebrate safely when choosing how to celebrate our country’s independence.
Gather with friends and family, crack a cold beverage to beat the heat, and fire up the grill, but please, use your best judgement. The last thing anyone wants is a fire that could have easily been avoided.
Throughout Oregon, it is illegal to use any fireworks that fly, explode or travel more than one foot high. With the current weather conditions, everyone should use common sense and not use any illegal fireworks. Please do your part in keeping our community safe this Fourth of July weekend.
If your neighbors choose to light fireworks, please refrain from calling 911. We need to make sure the phone lines are open and available if an emergency does happen. Please call non-emergency number at (503)823-3333 instead and report them immediately.
Be well,
Mayor Randy Lauer
