Project Background:
Over the past 8 years the Historic Landmark Commission has been exploring the feasibility of a historic district that encompasses Troutdale’s first plats of record. While initial discussions of a proposed district were enthusiastic; a worldwide pandemic, and untimely staff turnover, stalled project discussions around 2023. The project is now picking up momentum and the Historic Landmark Commission is set to prepare an application for Troutdale’s First Historic District in the coming months.
What does a historic district mean for residents? In short, the proposed district will not be regulatory, meaning a property’s inclusion in the proposed historic district will have no additional requirements of any kind. The Historic Landmark Commission has no interest in creating a historic district that will be either cumbersome or prohibitive to property and business owners but would rather celebrate and bring recognition to Troutdale’s historic beginnings. The Commission views the creation of a district as an opportunity to share their passion and knowledge with residents and visitors alike. As this project develops, you can expect to receive updates and news regarding the proposed district boundary map, proposed street sign toppers along the district boundaries, and proposed interpretive signage.
