Purpose of Position
Perform routine semi-skilled work in corrective and preventative maintenance to City buildings, grounds and equipment.
Essential Functions
a) Clean and sanitize public restrooms, empty trash, pick up trash at assigned parks.
b) Plant, cultivate and maintain lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers including fertilizing, mowing, trimming, edging and pruning. Install bark mulch in flower beds.
c) Operate and maintain mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, light trucks, tractors, and other tools and equipment.
d) Maintain playground equipment, benches, tables, and picnic structures. May assist in the construction and installation of similar items and facilities.
e) Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work areas.
f) Maintain consistent and regular job attendance and adherence to working hours.
g) Effectively and clearly communicate to others verbally and in both electronic and physical written forms.
h) Must develop and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and customers.
Auxiliary Job Functions
May be required to assist other departments/division personnel as work load or staffing levels dictate.
May set up and take down furniture and equipment for City events and meetings and provide necessary amenities.
Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Landscape maintenance practices and equipment.
Equipment, materials and methods used in routine custodial and facilities maintenance work and related safety precautions.
Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and horticultural vocations.
Physical Requirements
This is a highly physical position requiring a full range of body movement to include bending, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, etc. Employees risk physical hazard from tools and cleaning solvents. May be required to lift heavy equipment and materials weighing up to 90 lbs. Activity and types of duties performed require manual coordination and dexterity for extended periods.
Working Conditions
The majority of duties take place outside of buildings with exposure to all types of weather conditions and terrains on a year-round basis.
Supervision Received - Works under the direction of the Superintendent or designee.
Education and Experience
Any satisfactory combination of experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above duties.
Special Requirements/Licenses
Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Ability to obtain Oregon State Pesticide License within six months of hire.
